I build websites, for knife makers

Why knife makers you may ask? I am a knife enthusiast and long-time cutlery collector. Knives are my passion. When I first started making eCommerce websites for knife makers back in 1999, my model was flawed.

My original sites ended up being little more than pretty, hard-coded custom creations that were not user friendly. The functionality that custom knife makers were looking for simply wasn’t there. Anyone who has ever hard-coded a website knows how difficult it can be to find the balance between form and function. Even seemingly simple tasks such as adding pages or products require a developer, or database driven content management system (CMS) that provide the user with an interface.

The problem was that out of the hundreds of available CMS’s, very few were able to be search engine optimized, out of those, fewer still were easy for newbie’s to learn.

Fast forward to today. I now build on the SilverStripe platform. While there are some parameters, the CMS marries the ability for the knife maker to add pages, products and image galleries on their own while giving me the flexibility to build a unique, professional look to suit the individual. What’s more, the platform is extremely search engine friendly, meaning that you can rank your website in front of people actually looking for your work.

Here’s the thing; I am a full-time Senior Web Developer at a social media company. I intend to make no, (read: 0) money from any deal with knife makers. I am in it purely for the steel! I offer maintenance free web hosting on my secured server and domain registrations solely for convenience. There are no contracts of any kind and if you ever want to host with another provider you are totally free of any obligation.

Bottom line is that I enjoy making these sites and offer a low pressure, professionally assisted process to get you online and ranking with major search in no time.
